Why Re-Runs?

We all have at least one favorite t.v. show that we watch all the time. We all also have a favorite movie that we love to watch over and over again. Why is this? Why do people watch things on telelvision that they've already seen so many times?
When an episode of a television show comes on that we've seen before, do we turn off the t.v. or change the channel? Of course not. We watch it anyway. Why do we do this when we already know what's going to happen? We already know the story and the ending. What's the point in seeing somehting we've already seen? There's no thrill, suspense or excitement.
When I watch a "Santa Clause" with Tim Allen or "A Christmas Story" with little Ralphy, I can't help but feel happy inside. Watching either of these movies brings the feeling of Christmas Spirit into my home. This is my favorite time of year, and I love that feeling. I watch my favorite Christmas movies to feel the Christmas spirit.
"Little House on the Praire" is one of my absolute favorite shows. My family owns all nine seasons that were made. Something about the show just makes us feel happy, entertained and good inside. We know we like to watch those episodes over and over again. We do this so that we can feel the feelings I listed above.
People generally watch reruns or movies they've already seen, because they liked them the first time. If a movie or show comes on that you don't like, do you continue watching? Of course not, you change the channel. People only continue to watch media that they've already seen because they like the feeling they got while watching it before, whether it be happy, relaxed, excited, scared, humored or good inside.
