Why did kosy 106.5 start playing Christmas music on Halloween?
I couldn't believe it. It was Halloween night and my mom had the radio on while we waited for trick-or-treaters. What was playing on Kosy 106.5 FM? It was the sound of tinkling chimes and sleigh bells. On Halloween night, they began their Christmas radio season. Why do they start so early?
They took a poll at Kosy's websight not too long ago. They asked listeners to go on and vote on whether or not they should start the seasonal music two months before the holiday. Obviously, the "yes" votes outnumbered the "no"s. I guess the outcome makes sense. It's likely that the people who would say no were less likely to vote. They can listen to any other station on the radio if they don't want the Christmas music. However, those who wished for the holiday cheer to begin early would definetly voice their oppinion. There aren't many stations that will play the festive tunes that early. If they want to hear it, Kosy offered them a golden opportunity.
When the results came in, there was no way Kosy could ignore the difference in the numbers. The yes's won. Of course, there aren't going to be any who object to playing what the listeners want to hear. Advertizers will continue to support the station as long as they know that people are listening, and the poll says that they are. Not only will they continue to be able to advertize to a wide audience, but they'll also be able to start their Christmas advertizing. It's likely that those listening to Christmas music this early in the year will be more apt to be affected by Christmas commercials. They get excited hearing the music and can't wait to get their holiday presents and home unpdates ready. Kosy would have been crazy not to begin the festivities after the results of such a poll.
Finally, it's been proven that there are those who desire the music that Kosy offers. The station likely realizes that they are one of the very few who cater to such an audience. They will get nearly every Christmas-loving radio-listener in the Utah Valley.
Kosy plays Christmas music on Halloween for a couple of reasons. They want to please their audience. They can make money through advertizers and they likely increase the number of listeners they get. Money is part of it, but for the most part, Kosy plays Christmas music this early in order to please the ones they serve (me included).
